Brian,
My best guess is that it does matter whether one misses an easy or a hard question. For example, if one misses one easy question in the quant section, then they will not get a Q51 for sure, whereas missing one or two hard questions can still guarantee a Q51.

Yes, I think both the place of wrong questions and their difficulty (or ease) matter. But from my Exam 6 in EP2, I think the former is more important (especially 10 first questions)
I got a V36 with only 7 incorrect questions (3RC -> RC31, 2CR -> CR38, and 2 SC -> SC 44). In Exam 5, I still got V40 with 11 incorrect questions.
I got 1 incorrect question in the first 10 in both exams, but the noticeable difference was that the incorrect question in Exam 6 was the 1st one (a CR), while that in Exam 5 is the 6th (or 7th) one.
But again, I just do not understand how 3 RC incorrect questions led to a RC 31 even when 3 incorrect ones were not consecutive (2 in the second passage, and 1 in third passage) and when those 3 incorrect ones were not too easy.
