Dinged, and pretty upset. What can you do, though. Think I may reapply next year; any reapplicants have any tips? How much did you change your app/essays/recs/etc?

Sorry about the bad news fpm32 !

As a re-applicant I know how this feels! One advice would be to not take it personal - it's not a decision against you but for others. The fact that you interviewed with HBS and GSB shows that you are an amazing candidate. I was dinged without interviews last year.

To answer your question re changes:

Re-wrote the essay completely. even forced myself to not look at my old ones.
Changed one of my recommenders and gave the recommenders a better "package", i.e., information on what each school focuses on.
Put more effort into the online application form which I frankly somewhat neglected last year.

Hope this helps at all - more than happy to talk in more detail through skype or any other medium.

FROM HBS Admissions Blog: And Now for a Round 2 Update
Last week we welcomed the first members of the Class of 2019 to the HBS community. Hooray!

We’re now turning our attention to all you Round 2 applicants. A few notes:

• The Round 2 deadline is Wednesday, January 4th at 12pm EST. Applications will not be read before that time. We never shut down the application system until every application in the process of being submitted has been received. You will receive a confirmation email from our system once it goes through.

• We have two webinars coming up that I encourage you to attend if you have any last minute questions or concerns:

o      Round 2 Application Webinar 12/21 at 12pm EST

o Financial Aid Webinar 12/21 at 4pm EST

• The office (and all of HBS) will be closed from December 24 – January 2, and we will re-open at 9:00am on Tuesday, January 3. For Round 2 applicants, there will be technical support available at slatesupport@hbs.edu. We'll also be keeping an eye on our general admissions mailbox, admissions@hbs.edu, but we will not be responding during our vacation unless we think it is critical. I will post another update here when we return after break.

I hope you and your families have a wonderful holiday season, and we look forward to reading your applications in the New Year!

Chad

Hope everyone is doing well. Only 2 days left for R2 app submission deadline; How many applicants have already submitted their apps?

I did a quick analysis of R1 admission trend in this year. Here are major observations...

  • Acceptance rate for R1 applicants is 9.86%. It is lower than last year in which it was 11.5%.
  • As expected, avg GMAT & GPA of admits are higher than those of overall application pool; however, work experience of admits is actually lower. Any thoughts on this?
  • There were 7 applicants with 780 GMAT score of which only one has been accepted.
  • Out of 175 applicants who reported their GMAT scores on forum, 160 applicants had GMAT scores of 700 or higher and 108 applicants had 740 or higher.

HBS R1 Stats (GMATClub Users)
Avg GMATGMAT RangeAvg GPAWork Experience (in Years)
Overall736580-7803.605
Admitted745710-7803.694
Denied/Waitlisted735580-7803.595

Any thoughts, comments are most welcome. Do let us know how you are approaching essays and other parts of the application.
