GPA: 2.9 of 4.0, in a small, strong, public liberal arts college; English major
Taking Stats course this semester; taking Acct this summer

Career:
English teacher, Assistant Varsity Lacrosse Coach high school for four years at a diverse, large private high school
Technical Communications in eLearning (just received a promotion and interviewing for a position in Product Management, associate-level) for 1.5 years: won corporate award for work creation of a Business Communications program for ESL employees, and some other recognition for work.

Goals:
Education leader; product manager in eLearning (kellogg and GSB: tech club; Kellogg: tech program; Kellogg: Education Club)

Extracirricular:
founder and coach of an area lacrosse club
athlete in college, All-American, four-time all league, and graduated with numerous record and an NCAA record
On committee to choose Athletic Director and Lacrosse Coach in college
Member of Toastmaster's Club at current job
Captain of team in college; point guard and qb in high school; captain of all three sports in high school
drummer in a band (Kellogg has a school band)
Wrote for the newspaper in college

Submitted Smith and McDonough; applying for Kellogg and Chicago GSB in round 3. Yes...Round 3.

atoussaint,

Sorry, but I don't see Chicago and Kellogg admit you given your profile, which has somewhat weak numbers (for those two schools) and seems a little weak (for these schools) on the impact and leadership side (though the coaching helps you a lot in terms of showing leadership). I think you can get into both Georgetown and Maryland part-time without too much trouble, though Smith is the better bet.

Thanks for the feedback. I was aware that my numbers were obviously weak. The schools are definitely "reaches" so this is not something I was really surprised to hear from you. I just thought I'd give them a shot anyway.

I actually am a bit surprised about your comments about my impact and/or leadership: teacher, coach, captain, standout college athlete who was an active leader in the athletic program; also, in my work, I have been promoted, and am possibly moving into Product Management (interview on Monday), which is a leadership position.

Anyway, let me know, if you have a chance, why you think the impact and leadership are weak.

atoussaint,

I meant "weaker" than competitive applicants at schools like Chicago and Kellogg, not "weak" period. Your college leadership and coaching are strong, but it's sort of a 'what have you done for me lately' situation. Keep in mind that college successes are weighed less heavily than post-college successes. You didn't indicate in either of your posts whether you are or will be managing teams in your current organization. These are the reasons why I said what I did. If you are (or will be soon) then your leadership may be competitive for these two programs. Impact is another issue and is of course subjective. You didn't really mention your impact in your current job. I do think your teaching/coaching stint is an asset that you can use to help you stand out by focusing on it in an essay.
