nematodes can lie dormant for several years in their
cysts, which are protective capsules, and do not
emerge except in the presence of chemicals emitted
by potato roots. A company that has identified the
relevant chemicals in planning to market them to
potato farmers to spread on their fields when no
potatoes are planted; any nematodes that emerge
will soon starve to death.

C it is. If the chemicals that cause the chemicals that cause the nematodes to emerge from their cysts are "digested", then the nematodes will never emerge and the potato crop will thus not be affected

A) Why would the product be successful then? People would just use the pesticide
B) Does not say anything about the effectiveness of the chemicals
D) You don't want this to happen! If the nematodes come out, they could eat the whole crop! The chemicals may or may not kill the nematodes but all we know is that it will cause the latter to come out and we do not want that.

The company is clearly telling the famers to spread the chemical when no potatos are planted. So C is out.
Paul what were you doing here???
If C is true then chemical company has no business at all. Why shouold people use their chemical.

I will go with D on this. This proves that the Chemical company's claim is correct and effective.

Oops, you are right. My explanation of D is wrong because it omitted the fact that if the nematodes came out, they would starve to death. :oops:

The last line of the stem gives us the clue to the answer...it has to be D.

A is the average joe answer.
