Practice makes my quant score... lower? [#permalink] New post 16 May 2013, 11:07
Hi all!

First post, so not 100% if correct forum, but would greatly appreciate input from people here :) (Scold me if I'm in the wrong place). So my quant score has been getting worse with more practice, while my verbal score has gone up without any practice except SC. Summary:

730 (Q49, V41) [GMATprep test] - Mid February with zero practice.
710 (Q46, V41) [MGMAT test1] - Mid March after going through all the MGMAT quant guides
730 (Q45, V45) [MGMAT test2] - Today (Mid May) after finishing the Advanced GMAT Quant by Manhattan (I didn't do anything for a month because of laziness mostly)

So I'm wondering if the MGMAT tests are somewhat harder in the quant than the actual tests?
Has anyone had a similar experience?
Got any advice how I can improve my quant after having already gone through most of the guides? I have about 1.5 Months where I can focus about 3-4h/day on the GMAT.
Are the GMAT Club tests good for practice or only for gauging the level you're at?

Will probably do the first GMATprep test again to see whether it was a fluke.

Thanks :)

Hi Welix92, if I were you, I'd stop studying right now! It doesn't seem to do you much good ;)

Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if MGMAT exams were a little harder than the GMATprep, but they should all approximate the algorithm you face on test day pretty accurately. Also, there isn't much difference between 710 and 730, you might have just been a little luckier on one than the other, so I wouldn't worry too much about the difference. It does sound like you're pretty well prepared for the exam already, so you should be fine for test day.

Best of luck!
