Practice scores of 620/670 how reliable for the real thing? [#permalink] New post 11 Sep 2004, 21:36
I have two practice scores from two electronic CATS. (MBA.com's free one, and PR Crack the Gmat) They are 620/670. I got them after *absolutely* no studying. I got a 620 taking it just for kicks and I took it again because I wanted to know if it was a mistake. That time I got a 670.

What I am wondering is how good of predictor is that for the real thing?

I want a 750+ (low GPA) but I figure if I am starting at a 650 thats not too bad either.

Powerprep probably comes the closest. i wont trust kaplan and princeton scores.

We do have a score estimator and it does the predicting fairly well. you will see the estimator in the Resources section on the website.

In general, practise tests will not help too much in predicting scores simply because its too difficult to replicate the stress and the level of preparation you will have on test day.

What we did was to ask guys to input their practise test scores and their real gmat score into the database. We have 250+ entries in the database now. what this does is establishes a fairly ok relationship between the practise test scores and real gmat. but again, the score estimate you will get is just that, an estimate.

hope this helps

you cant get access to the data, but the mathematical model that uses the data gives you an estimate of your score. the score estimator is in the resources section of the website.
