Practicing off MGMAT CAT's or Gmatclub? [#permalink] New post 08 Apr 2012, 22:08
Hi All,

I took the GMAT 4 months ago, and I am retaking it in 3 weeks. My original score was 48/36 690, and I'm shooting to get a 730-740 this time around. I've improved my verbal quite a bit, but I'm still looking for ways to increase my quant to 50. I've done 6 cats from MGMAT, but I think I might review what I got wrong and reset them. I've seen a lot of great reviews on the gmatclub questions, but will it be worth the $100 extra or will the MGMAT cat questions help equally as much? If anyone has used both, and reached a 50Q, I'd appreciate their feedback.

Thank you!

i'm also wondering the same and would like to know other people's thoughts. I've done mostly mgmat CAT tests and I've noticed the math is more difficult than that of the gmat prep and easily more difficult than OG or 2nd edition quant review (i'm done with all the OG material now). I've seen at least half a dozen people echo the same sentiment and even add that it is more difficult than the real thing.

however, some people also say that it's a different kind of difficulty. the mgmat problems often involve more steps to solve than the real gmat problems and therefore take more time. although the real gmat problems apparently do not take as much calculation as the mgmat problems, they are more difficult in that they have a really elegant trick to them. i always thought it was difficult to write very good quantitative problems so perhaps manhattan just makes up for that difficulty by making the problem more convoluted with calculation, wordiness, or just tricky wording. for that reason I'm shying away from using their material.

anyway, i asked on another thread about the samurai problem collections. there is a collection of DS and a PS and it contains maybe a dozen questions per topic. Bunuel mentions they are 650-750 level. This is free so this is something I'm considering.

Sylverlee, I think using both the MGMAT CATs and also GMATClub tests would be very helpful. I have heard many good things about these tests and in your case, it can help you reach a score of 50 (which could have well been enough to propel you into the 700 club). The tests I have heard are very challenging from most of the users, but they are very helpful. I hope that you at least try and purchase some of these tests and use them into your preparation. I am also working on getting some in the near future to use in my preparation

MGMAT Math Test & Knewton Verbal Test (on the GMAT Club Free tests page) are relatively easy. Are GMAT Club's Tests of same difficulty level
