Prepping to apply for strategy consulting positions [#permalink] New post 14 Oct 2005, 08:10
Hi guys,

I'm prepping for the GMAT now. My goal is to get into a top 10 school and then apply for the top strategy consulting firms. I have a friend at Haas now and he mentioned that some consulting firms, in addition to asking for your GMAT scores, also ask for your SAT scores. I thought this was strange, especially considering that an older applicant like me took the SAT 15 years ago. Is this really the case? If so, should I go ahead and take the SAT now? I think the SAT would be easy for me, considering I'm studying for the GMAT now. I got a 1370 (650M, 720V) on the 1990 SAT; so if SAT scores are a concern I would want to submit higher scores (especially knowing that the test as it is given now has been adjusted higher than when I took it). Thanks for any advice!

Yeah, I've heard of this too, but definitely do not take it again. They just want to know what you got way back in high school. The test has changed a few times since then, so I believe that consulting firms are putting less and less emphasis on it.

To put it another way, I really, really doubt that you'd get dinged by McKinsey because of your 1990 SAT score. Anyway, a strong GMAT score will make the whole thing irrelevant!
