It think it is B

2001=a 2002=b 2003=c

(b-a)/a=x

(c-b)/b=y

required to find (c-a)/a = ?

1) insufficient, cause

(b-a)(c-b)/ab = 30 this will not suffice ot derive (c-a)/a

2) sufficient

100*((b(b-a)+a(c-b))/ab+(b-a)(c-b)/ab)=800

when it is suimplified than it becomes

b(c-a)/ab = 8 (c-a)/a = 8

Ans: B

ANswer B

It took me a while to solve the equation with OPtion B

But simplifying it bring it to ( C-a)/a = 8

B it is..

here is a short cut formula to remember..

if price is increase by x% then by y% the resulting net increase after the successive increments is always (X + Y + XY/100)

in our question below

2) is simply the equation..re-written B is sufficient

It took me about 5 secs to do this..

B it is

((x+100)/100)*((y+100)/100)=(10000+100y+100x+xy)/10000

Divide both sides by 100:

100X + 100Y + XY = 800
X + Y + XY/100 = 8.
