Princess Diana’s dresses set the standard for all fashion houses in Europe. Such a thing didn’t happen before or since.

(A) didn’t happen before or
(B) had neither happened before or
(C) didn’t happen before and hasn’t happened
(D) hasn’t happened either before or
(E) hadn’t happened before and hasn’t happened

First thing to note here is that we do not have 2 past actions, so rule out Past Perfect. That eliminates B and E. Next the use of 'since' in the sentence requires us to use the present perfect (hasn't). So that eliminates A. Now out of C and D, I would chose (C) because the word 'before' to me requires didn't and since requires hasn't. (C) clearly says -didn’t happen before and hasn't happened since

Another general rule of thumb on GMAT that I forgot to mention, never use past perfect with the word 'before'.

what is the source and what is the OA? Very GOOD question
