If you're taking the GMAT, don't use a GRE math book.

I bought both...kaplan is better [#permalink] New post 10 Feb 2004, 10:41
The Princeton Math workout is way too simple...the Kaplan math workout is helpful, but mainly to get yourself up to speed with math concepts. I'm not sure if the actual problems in Kaplan are similar to the ones on the GMAT, but they are definitely harder than the Princeton math workout. However I did find a couple of the shortcuts in princeton helpful.

There seems to be a little confusion here. The Kaplan GMAT GRE book is not a GRE book. It is a GMAT/GRE book with great general sections to brush up math skills, and a very specific GMAT section and one for GRE. Whoever looked at "GMAT GRE" on their screen, saw only GRE, and recommended against it needs to be more careful before discouraging the purchases of one of the best math resources available.

I recommend it, particularly for those without the strongest math backgrounds. It provides a lot of useful tools for solving GMAT problems by refreshing and enriching fundamentals.

I like the Kaplan math workbook, particular for "poets" who need a comprehensive review of basic math. I like the way it is sectioned, and I like the way it presents problems for each section in increasing difficulty.

My only complaint is that is doesn't have a section on probability, though that does not detract from its value as a nicely organized basic review.

I often recommend that my students work through the book before spending the big bucks on private tuturing so that they can get the most value for their money.
