One of my recommenders went to princeton for undergrad. The 1st question he asked me when i gave him the schools i was targeting was "what about looking into princeton for an MBA?" Looks like I need to get him a bit more up to speed asap. Wondering if I should worry. In his credit he could give two whoots about anything outside engineering.

Seriously though....I wonder why Princeton doesn't have an MBA ...I hate the fact that NJ doesn't have a MBA program ranked in the top 20...I could have saved some bucks thru in-state fee if it did !

They dont have ANY professional degrees (i.e. no Law school either). They do however have an MFin (Masters of Finance) course, if finace is your focus. Although, they seem very focused on the academic aspects of education.

Wouldn't MFin be a professional degree? Or just no law/med/biz schools?

Its more of an 'inter-faculty' academic program. They just use courses from existing departments of finance, mathematics, computer science etc. Lots and lots of electives..

Their MF is one of the hardest programs to get into, its extremely small and their placement is amazing where most people get sent. If you want to go purely into finance its about as good a program as you could find.

just make sure your boss knows you and knows what it takes to be an MBA. It's nice if your rec says, "as a Harvard '02 myself, I understand what it takes to ace an MBA program, and I know johnny has it." But lots of applicants, especially those coming from engineering or IT or nonprofit, don't have that.

Princeton has been standing the high ground for ages now. I respect them for it. The best universities in the world including the likes of Cambridge have given in to this money-making rage. If you look at the most successful people, whether by money or respect, none of them have an MBA. But we sell dreams. The going logic is "we were simply trying to maximize our chances from our vantage point". But this falls apart when you tell them that the consulting company or ibank they wanted to go to after the MBA could have been achieved by a focused masters from Princeton or LSE just as easily. But those degrees are not the big money-makers. (Ok, I'm cynical.)
