B, C and E are out because of the pronoun 'them'...... it is referring either companies or core businesses and hence is not clear.....

D is too wordy..... thereby and by... makes it unacceptable to me...

Hence A is the best take for me....

But So X as to Y is the correct idiom.
There is no X here. So A is also grammertically wrong

So As To is a correct idiom although not preferred in GMAT. But at the sametime, if this is the only option, GMAT accepts this as valid. As per GMAT, this is not preferred but at the same time not wrong...!

Looking all other options.... A is the only one left which is the best!
