Probability Questions on the GMAT [#permalink] New post 02 May 2003, 04:30
I hear more and more about Probability Questions on the GMAT and that some have gotten up to 3 or 4 Questions.

The real Question here is : Just what kind of Probability Questions are being asked ?

Do you have to know
- Hypergeometric Probability Distribution
- The Binomial Probability Distribution

or just Combinations and basic Probability (AND / OR types) ?

On GMAT I've encountered the only probability question like:

You have a box containing 10 balls 4 of which are black. If you pick up 2 of them what is probability that both are black?

the questions that i saw on probability were also the marbles bit, also there were questions on combinations which was like if there were 3 trousers 2 shirts, and you need to select 1 shirt and 1 trouser how many such combinations is possible.

I understand that if you get a probability or combination question it means that you are doing well on the quant section. Interestingly I was plagued with 4 data sufficiency questions first before I got to problem solving, and they were quite tough...
