4 containers of 128 nails each cost 4 x 7.75, so per nail the cost is:

(4 x 7.75)/512 = 7.75/128 ≈ 0.06

2 containers of 256 nails each cost 2 x 9.75, so per nail the cost is:

(2 x 9.75)/512= 9.75/256 ≈ 0.04

Thus, each nail would cost approximately $0.02 more when the employee bought the nails in smaller containers instead of the larger containers.

Price per Nail when he buys 4 Smaller Containers:

[(4) * ($7.75)] / 512 Nails


Price per Nail if he bought 2 Larger Containers:

[(2) * ($9.75)] / 512 Nails


Difference between the 2 ----- Already have a Common DEN = 512


[ (4) * ($7.75) - (2) * ($9.75)] / 512


----Take 2 as Common-----

2 * [ (2) * (7.75) - 9.75] / 512

[ (2) * (7.75) - 9.75 ] / 256

(15.50 - 9.75) / 256

(5.75) / 256


256 * (2) = 512 -----> thus: 256 * (.02) = 5.12

256 * (3) = 768 ------> thus: 256 * (.03) = 7.68


5.75 is MUCH Closer to 256 * (.02)


Answer: $ .02
