Profie Evaluation: 3.6 GPA, 660 GMAT, 4 yrs w/e at BB firms [#permalink] New post 01 Oct 2012, 20:11
I am mainly interested in top 10 US schools as well as UCLA.

My stats are as follows:
Undergrad: top 50 state school, bs accounting, gpa 3.6
Study abroad: Elite private university in Japan, gpa 3.9
GMAT: 1st attempt 660 (47Q, 35V), 2nd attempt 660 (49 Q, 32 V)
Work Experience: Top BB - 2.5 yrs leadership rotation program in Asia (one chosen out of 3000 competitive applicants amidst financial crisis); Another mid tier BB - currently 9 months in the finance division (Japan) where I am given more responsibility and deal more with strategic projects
Extracurriculars: Volunteer/fund raising at Rehabilitation hospital (raised close to 90Kusd for the facility, leader of top-BB's leadership development program (chosen as I had top rank in my analyst class)
Certifications: CPA (top scores), CFA Level II candidate

I know that my gmat may hurt me for top 10, but do you think my application will be competitive at UCLA? Also, any other schools you recommend me apply to? I have interests in corporate development, asset management, banking.

I also have an offer for LSE's Msc accounting and finance, do you guys think that may be better if i do not get into a top 15 MBA? Please consider new Visa rules making it much harder (close to impossible) for foreigners to find work in London.

Thanks.

Several thoughts...just because you go get a degree from LSE doesn't mean you have to get a job in London. I would think that international grad study would add a nice spin on your resume for a job back in the states, particuarly with a global company. Having said that, You should be competitive for a top MBA, but that doesn't necessarily mean you are competitive in the top 10. A top MBA is top 25, so I would broaden my list to include 2-3 in the top 10 and 2-3 in the 10-20 list. Your post MBA interests are broad enough that they should be achievable with any school in the top 20. You should have a shot at top 10, though. I like your leadership and international exposure.
