Hi,
I am Indian female, 23 working in a leading IT firm for last 2 years. I have completed my engineering from a top college of Mumbai. My GPA is around 3.0.
Now the big question:
What should I do to add things on my profile. I wish to get into one of the top 50 b-schools in the world and will be applying next year. I want to pursue finance for a change in job profile and because of my keen interest. My GMAT score is 720.
At the moment, apart from my job, I have lead some of the events conducted by the ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ society at my company.
I volunteer at an NGO that educates underprivileged kids.
I have lead and volunteered some events while in college.
I am trained in martial arts and have a brown belt.
I have done some microsoft certifications in dot net.
I have some certifications in finances from NSE (National Stock Exchange, Mumbai)
I have a year or so before applying. Please suggest what I can do.
I am planning to learn a new language. Also I plan to complete my CFA level 1. I think its never late to start, with your guidance I can work harder to make a good profile and increase my chances to get a good college and inch closer towards my dream.
Awaiting your reply.
I suggest you get a copy of my book,
MBA Admission for Smarties. It is available from Amazon India (in paperback and Kindle) and also from Flipkart (paperback). We deal with your questions thoroughly there.
Basically you are doing the right things. A couple of more suggestions:
1) If you can get promoted at work or assume a leadership role there, that would help you.
2) Get international exposure either on the job or off.
3) Research the schools. Please see
MBA in Sight: Focus on Finance.4) Sharpen your goal. "Finance" is very broad. What kind of finance do you want to do? Do you want to focus on a particular industry?
Best,
Linda
