I'm obviously a career-switcher. I want to take my language skills and international experience and enter the energy field. What sort of schools should I be looking at? I have a daughter and a wife looking for a medical residency program in the US? I would like to get the best value possible with the best education, since I really need the retraining.
Your help is appreciated,
Michael Nichols
My biggest concern about your profile is the lack of business experience, and my second-biggest concern is your age. It sounds like you have some cultural experience in Russia and Germany to share with the class, but not necessarily insight into how businesses are run there. My advice is to find programs with strong Energy recruiting that don't attract a great number of Eastern Europeans/Central Asians so that your cultural contribution can be more clearly differentiated. To meet your wife's needs, you'll probably need to be in a large city with a hospital to staff. Among the programs you will want to consider are Texas A&M, Rice, UT Austin, Oklahoma, Carnegie Mellon, and possibly UMass at Amherst.
