1) 27 year old white American male planning to begin class fall of 2012 or 2013
2) Engineering Management at West Point
GPA 2.7 (improved every semester though)
GMAT- 760 (99%), Q48 (82%), V47 (99%) first try
Passed Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FEE) and have excelled in Army courses.
3) Captain in United States Army (5-6 years)- Worked as Field Artillery Platoon Leader (leading 25 men), Fire Direction Officer, Battalion Fire Support Officer, and Battery Commander (leading 120 men).
4) Played basketball (D-1) for 4 years and was on baseball team for two (busy schedule partly caused low GPA problem). Expecting to have an article published soon in an Army professional journal.
5) Would like to end up in the Southeast (mainly FL or GA) or TX upon completion of MBA. Does that limit me much job/paywise? Do the high-powered jobs in NYC and other large markets skew the average much higher or are there desirable jobs to found elsewhere? Having little exposure to the real business world, I am not sure what sector I want to get into. Do know I would like management but not much after that. Any recommendations of books or other sources that can help me get a better feel for what my options are and how that would refine my list of schools?
6) Schools
INSEAD- Does deployment to Iraq count as international exposure? Also, is it going to be hard for me to get back to Southeast USA from INSEAD?
UT Austin (McCombs)- This is my fall-back since I own a home in Austin.
Stanford
HBS
UPenn (Wharton)
Northwestern (Kellogg)
NYU (Stern)
Duke (Fuqua)
UVA (Darden)
Understand the ultra-elites are stingy with scholarship money, but if I put together a good application can I expect to get significant money at a UT/UVA or even Duke?
One other note: I am 7'0 tall. I understand physical demographics arent usually considered, but could this be considered a point of diversity in my favor?
thanks for any help/advice you can provide.
