I have been working for 2 years at a top 20 consulting firm and was recently promoted. I have glowing recommendations from co-workers / clients / bosses. I have a 720 GMAT. I have strong connections (not family though) to a number of top 10 schools. I had a 2.8 GPA from a top 20 university. Thoughts on my potential to get into a top 10 business school?

Other considerations:
- I am considering taking some classes at NYU to build an alternate transcript.
- I am considering working abroad for a well respected non-profit for a year or two before going back to school. I want to do this for a number of reasons (not just to get into b-school), however I worry that if I go work for a non-profit, I won't be able to return to working in the private sector without going to b-school.
- I plan to apply for a 2013 start

Any advice is helpful. Target schools are (I realize I have set the bar high here):

Harvard
Stanford
Tuck
Darden
INSEAD
NYU
Columbia

Doable at most (though not all) those schools, but they will make you sweat for it. Really.

Hi consultant1257,

Those are very competitive business schools. One thing you will need to do is address your low GPA in your application. Here is a case study of how another candidate did this and was accepted into Columbia and Chicago Booth:

Have you taken the GMAT yet? If you have time, you can visit MBA.com and take a free official GMAT test online to see how you would do.

Hope this was of help.

Cheers,

Conrad and the Stacy Blackman Team
