Hello

I am a Civil Geotechnical Engineer with a total 7 years work-ex to date in the engineering consulting services. My experience has been in large infrastructure projects. To broaden my scope outside of technical field, I am interested in a FULL TIME MBA. Particularly, I am looking into Infrastructure/Utilities/Real Estate finance.

My top choices are Chicago Booth, London Business School, Indian School of Business and INSEAD.

I was wondering what schools and what strategy would suit me to achieve such a career switch.

Here is my profile:

Concentration Preference - Project Finance, Infrastructure/Utilties/Real Estate Finance

Location Preference - Asia , Europe

GMAT : 760 (99%ile) Quant - 90%ile Verbal - 93 %ile IR - 7/8 AWA - 5.5/6

Masters : Virginia Tech GPA 3.4

Undergrad : Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi GPA - 7.4 out of 10

Work ex : I would say a satisfactory work - ex. Can get good recommendations and show leadership in managing tasks, mentoring and advising. Can
demonstrate problem solving with quantifiable results.

1. 7 years with a big EPC (Engineering , Procurement and Construction) firm in the US
2. Currently an Associate Project Manager
3. Managing a team of 3-5 geologists and engineer
4. Promoted twice and recommended to be promoted to next level by manager

Extra Curricular : Somewhat sporadic
1. Created, marketed and managed a website with a partner - employed one more full time person in India - venture hasnt taken off
completely yet.
2. Leadership role in blood donation drive
4. Minor fundraising for NGO
5. Tutoring, animal shelter volunteering
6. Cricket, Soccer

Thanks in advance for the complementary evaluation!

I think you would have a shot at your target schools with your profile. Having a seven year consulting background will be valuable as a classmate, so what you bring to the table should be attractive to the admissions committees. Additionally, your strong GMAT score coupled with your Master's and undergrad degrees tell them that you can handle the academic rigors of a top flight MBA program. You are actually a little older than most b-school applicants, which can be couched as an advantage and potentially even a diversity play (older, wiser, etc.). Make sure you cast a compelling vision for what you want to achieve post MBA and why now is the time to go back.
