Hi,

Here is my profile for evaluation:

Demographic: 29/M/Chinese-Canadian

Education:
- B.Sc. in Computer Science from UBC, GPA 4.0, May 2005
- GMAT 740 (V42, Q49)

Work: 7 years 5 months by Sept 2012
- currently: 6 years at major Canadian telecom, started in new grad leadership dev program, then promoted to IT manager, now managing self-created team in social media and emerging tech
- prior interships during university - 1 year in Denmark biotech company, 8 months in government, all IT-related

Extracurriculars: (probably weakest part of my application)
- long term mentoring of university students, colleagues, and others, Sr. industry mentor at alma mater
- self-taught acoustic guitar player, perform at concerts
- organised various concerts and fundraisers, but mostly at work
- working towards private pilots license

Goals:
- during MBA: internships and case studies in IT and social media fields, build business foundation
- post MBA: IT consulting in Asia (for personal + professional reasons)
- dream: fix China - disappointed at a society in moral decline, and feel a sense of duty to do something about it through successful business and IT ventures

Schools: (all-in, no safety)
- Harvard, Stanford, Wharton (Lauder MBA/MA), MIT Sloan, Columbia, Kellogg

Thoughts?

Thanks,

David

Hi, David. You have a strong foundation of stats in your GMAT and GPA. My only concerns are your age (while you are still in the right range for most programs, HBS is going to be less interested) and your short-term goal doesn't sound ambitious enough for the programs you have identified. The long-term goal/dream of fixing China also needs to be much more refined before you can share it in your application: it is ambitious and positive, but you need to be able to explain the "how" of that dream.
