With your current profile, the schools you listed are in range and your assessment of your chances accurate.

However, here's some extra motivation for you:

If you retake the GMAT and can score a 720+, then you will can put yourself in a different league.

Schools like Duke, Cornell, Ross, Darden, NYU, UCLA and Yale are sweet spots (choose 2-3).

Stretch schools would be Kellogg, Tuck, Sloan, Booth, Columbia and Haas (choose 2-3).

And schools outside the top 16 like USC, Indiana, Georgetown, Emory, and UNC would be safeties.

Yes, you do have solid and interesting experience (you're not one in a billion engineers or one in a thousand finance types), and you'd be a great fit for management consulting - I can totally see that. Which is why the only thing holding you back right now is the GMAT.

Retake it if you can.

Thanks so much Alex. To be clear, the "sweet spots" you mention would be assuming an increase in my GMAT, correct? And at this point, is it worth taking a couple of math courses or would that seem opportunistic/disingenuous?

Also, is there any risk if I were to retake the GMAT and, somehow, received a lower score? I suppose my fear is that the 690 might be seen as a fluke. I doubt I would go lower -- I studied pretty well for this one but still could have been more diligent -- but obviously I want to avert risk wherever possible...

Yes, sweet spots assuming an increase in GMAT.

Also don't worry about a lower score -- adcoms do mean it when they say they only care about the highest score.

As for additional courses, that can be helpful to counter your low GPA . Priority is on the GMAT, and then if you have time, by all means take a few classes (calculus, stats, algebra, accounting, microeconomics, etc - freshman level classes are fine).
