Profile Evaluation [#permalink] New post 01 Dec 2011, 19:54
Hi,

I was hoping to get a evaluation of my MBA application profile. Please find some of my information below:

Background: 25 year old Indian-American Male

Education: B.A. in Economics, Minor in Management from UC Irvine (Cum Laude Honors, GPA 3.63, 3.70 in Economics). Member of Omicron Delta Epsilon (Econ Honors Society), Golden Key Honors Society, Best Buddies (mentor for special needs children), and Economics Club

Work Experience: 5 years experience (August 2012) at an Economic Litigation Consulting firm. Serve as Peer Mentor to junior Analysts, President of the Analayst Social Committee and lead training sessions across multiple offices to both junior and senior staff members. Cases include billion dollar pension plans, securities fraud and retirement plan cases. Typical work includs building complex financial models, valuation models, lost profit analyses and statistical programs to evaluate and critique claims made by plaintiffs in litigation cases. Clients have included Fortune 500 corporations, large pharmaceutical companies, Countrywide, Wells Fargo and other large financial institutions. My work requires me to conduct complex financial analyses and present my findings to both senior executives at my firm as well as senior law partners to assist in trial/settlement situations. My area of focus is analyzing mutual funds, portfolio management techniques of large money managers and quantifying the losses associated with pension plans owning mortgage-backed securities.

    GMAT: 710 (92nd Percentile): Q40/V49

Extracurriculars: Volunteer/Education Specialist at local animal shelter, member of 2 South Asian charity organizations

Misc: May or may not make a difference, but I have a visual disability (genetic linked degeneration of my central vision) that I have discussed in my optional essays

I was hoping to see how my profile would be viewed by schools such as Columbia, Berkeley, and UCLA. I'm also debating applying to schools such as Wharton, Harvard, Chicago or Kellogg. If possible, could you please share your insights on my profile with regards to these specific schools? Thanks in advance!

Congrats for ur score
Ur profile seems to be competative enough for the top B-Schools.
Ur scores and background are competitive,
Now Ur essays got to be outstanding. U need to illustrate the quality of ur work exp, responsibilities u had taken, ur achievements, why u wanted to do MBA from that particular B-School
Moreover if u are clear on how ur background and experience can contribute to the class u may hav better chance.
I dont think Ur Visual disability will not reduce ur chances to get in. But good that u addressed that in the optional essay.

Ur score is superb, but for most of the ivy-schools, GMAT is just a parameter and 700+ score is just a score that wont reduce ur chances to get in just because of low GMAT.

U need to work on the other criterias... Main is Essays

Wish u all the very best
