Profile Evaluation [#permalink] New post 15 Apr 2012, 00:56
Hi,

Thank you in advance for taking out the time to evaluate my profile. I am sharing below my background so you can
i) evaluate my profile,
ii) identify strong areas and improvement areas (and subsequently how to address them)

a) Work Experience: I have 78 months of work experience in the IT and Consulting area. I currently work for one of the IT and Consultancy companies. I currently work as a project lead for a 7 member team and has been promoted twice in the organization.

b) International Work Experience: 10 months of consultancy and lead experience for a leading insurance client in U.S for a million dollar project.

c) GMAT: 660 (Q: 47, V:34)

d) Education:
I have
-a Bachelors in Computer Science Engineering with a GPA of around 3 to 3.2 with a first class with distinction
- Two technology certifications

e) Activities outside Profession:
- I have been an active organizing volunteer for the CSR wing of my organization and college for which I actively teach for school kids
- I have won two software presentation competitions during my college days.

f) Programs considered: Technology management in ISB ,NUS, Nanyang, S.P Jain.

g) Goals: I would like to work as a product / program manager for a product dev company.

Also please answer my question about my international exposure?. Is the exposure good enough for the target schools?. I may get an opportunity to work in U.S again as a consultant. can you please let me know whether working as a proj lead at offshore / as a consultant at onsite will improve my chances?.

Hello maheshsrini, thanks for your question.

I have to admit that I am not familiar with the GMAT standards of those programs. I will say, though, that given that you come from a highly competitive demographic in the MBA applicant pool, your quants – GMAT and GPA – would not move the needle as much as they would otherwise. Look up the medians and means of those programs; you will aim to be north of those marks.

Generally, I would also advise differentiating yourself from your demographic. Computer Science doesn’t give you much latitude in this respect, but perhaps you could play up your volunteer work teaching kids.

Best of luck,
Brian
