Profile Evaluation [#permalink] New post 10 Nov 2012, 21:47
Hi,

I'm 26/M. Here is my profile.

1) I have been working in an Online Marketing and Research Start-up since the last two years starting from Sept, 2009. Got promoted to a Manager position in the second year and have been managing a team of 5-7 people. I've been involved with various high responsibility roles throughout the small organisation and secured them a multitude of new clients.

2)GMAT 670(Q 44, V 38). Should I retake? I don't have much time left before the applications.

3)Graduated from a private college in the US with a BSC in Computer Engineering. GPA is abysmally low at 2.0/4.0. Have some failing grades as well. I was never interested in Engineering or serious about life in general and couldn't get my self to perform in those courses. I only got serious in my senior year and started performing well. My GPA was above 3.0 for the last two terms and I did extremely well in all my classes, included the courses that I was failing before. I plan to explain this in more detail in my optional essay.

4)I have been running a small support group with an NGO which teaches entrepreneurial skills to rural households. I started working with the NGO in 2004 i.e even before I started college. Discontinued when I left for college for six years and started working with them again in 2010 when I returned. It's now been over 2 years.

5) No certifications

6)Target Programs:- University of Hong Kong, UC Irvine, Kelly school of Business, Cornell, INSEAD, St Gallen, Baruch College, HEC.

7) Keep progressing in Marketing.

Thank you for your advice. I know my GPA is a big issue but I hope the ad com can see my profile beyond this issue. Any other pointers are also much appreciated.

Hello,

Thanks for sharing. I think your professional experience is strong - you seem to have a lot of leadership and team experience to draw from. Academically, your GPA is very low, but I think the optional essay explanation should help (the fact that you recovered in the last two years is helpful!). It would, however, help if you could bring up the GMAT. I think it would give them more comfort around your analytic capabilities. Your community activities are great!

I think you've got a good mix of schools on your list. Nothing on there seems completely out of the question - since your GPA is a bit of a wildcard, it's good to have that range of programs on your list.

Best of luck,
Mili
