Hi,

I am interested in applying to business school in the fall, with my top choice being Columbia (planning to apply Early Decision)

Work experience: 3 years at top tier consulting firm
Education: BA Economics from an Ivy League, 3.95 GPA
GMAT: 710, 44V, 44Q

I am trying to decide whether to retake the GMAT, particularly given my not too great Q score... my university degree and job require a lot of quantitative skills, but for some reason I have a difficulty with the types of quantitative reasoning on the GMAT....any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

That quant score is disappointing given your work and other academic credentials. Obviously it would be great if you could raise that quant score. If you think you can do it, I think it makes sense to try. Obviously focus your study efforts on the quant. do as any practice problems as possible. Consider private tutoring or a different approach to test prep.

If you don't think you can raise it -- you've already taken it multiple times and you did your darndest -- then apply with this score. It is possible that your grades and work experience will provide the evidence of quant abilities that the GMAT isn't. Also, ask your recommenders if they can comment positively on your quant skills.

Best,
Linda
