Profile Evaluation [#permalink] New post 17 Oct 2013, 01:48
Hi,

Could you be so kind to evaluate my profile.

Age: 29 (by the time i enroll, i'll be 31)
Male
Nationality: Russian
8 Years living in Italy

Education:
- BSc In Industrial Engineering in Russia GPA 3
- MSc In Industrial Engineering in Russia GPA 3.7
- MSc in Mechanical Engineering in Italy (Politecnico di Milano) GPA 3

Work Experience:
Total: 7 years
- 3 years. American Oil&Gas Company (30k employees) in European HQ in Milan (Italy). Position: Project Engineer of complex oil&gas machinery applications for international energy projects.
- 4 years (by the time i'll apply). European Industrial (Electromechanical equipment producer) Corporate of more than 100k employees. Position: Product Area Marketing Manager. (Geographic region of 10 m€ budget x year)

Languages: Russian (native), Italian (Fluent), English (Fluent)

Targets: Columbia, MIT, Stanford, Stern, Yale

What GMAT score range do I need to be considered at any of these schools?
I guess my GPA doesn't help me at all...but i can't do much with that. My age won't help me as well..But i will try anyway to do my best in order to be admitted,

Do you think i have chances to be considered by the schools i've listed. (If not) What'd you advise?
Thank you very much for you time and your help

Hey there dude.

Your profile looks pretty good. Russian national, with Italian experience in a very strong industry, and for an American firm. Your UG GPA is not that fantastic, and if I was on the AdCom I'd be asking myself why you need yet ANOTHER degree (so that means make sure you explain it real well). To get into the schools above, you could theoretically apply with a 700+ but a 720+ would be better.

From what I've seen unless you have some world revolutionary goal, (and one that you can reach) Stanford is gonna be a bit of a longshot. And as for the other schools, they might be more or less tough depending on your GMAT.

I still don't have a clear enough picture of what you actually do at work (what your main achievements are, how many people you lead, how "fast" you have been moving up) so it's a bit hard to evaluate the strength of your work experience. But if you have some good stories of leadership, I think you should be all right there.

Hope this helps,
JF

Dear Jon,

Thank you very much for your reply. I do appreciate that you've spent some time on my evaluation.
You do really help people here.

That's also good to hear that i still have the chances to be admitted on TOP 20 MBA Schools.

Answering on you question about actual job activities:

Sales & marketing activities in Russia & CIS countries for such industry as Power Products (selling of electromechanical equipment to B2B and final customers/users as well)

Some success in 2,5 years> (when i enroll i'll have 4 years of exper.)
Development of new market of Azerbaijan. From "0"$ Revenue to "1,5" m$ yearly.
Constant growth in Russia. 20% every year.
Constant growth in Ukraine 25% every year.
Constat growth in Baltic countries 20% every year
My area when i've started on 2011 - 4,5m$, now 2013 (forecast) - 7,2 m€. These are only numerical tech data..

Main Activities: business developing, marketing analysis, sales (developing sales channels: OEM, Distributors, EPC, Industries, Utilities). Sales negotiations. Cost analysis. Business analysis. Competitor analysis. Technical/commercial proposals.
I do not lead team directly. We are a team of local sales units in the countries where do i sell, and the global focus factory marketing (me) who helps to promote, defines business strategy and coordinates.

Thank you one more time Jon
Wish you all the best..

Things look pretty good, still :). I mean you have good stories, the numbers on your achievements are concrete and solid, and as far as international experience goes, it can't be beat. So I'd say Top 20 is totally game for you. Top 5 will be tough, because maybe your job could be more "Fancy"... but the other schools should be in range. You might want to look into the Energy schools though - I must have made a bunch of posts on this, but basically Rice, Austin, Haas are fantastic choices, and for example, even if Rice isn't in top 20 their placement in Oil and Gas is mythic, so you might want to add it to your list too.

Good luck!
