Hi,
Request you to evaluate my profile. Thanks for your time
Male - 23 years old from India
GMAT - 660 (Q47, V 34, IR 6, AWA pending)
Academics
Institute of Chartered Accountants of India - May 2011 - 64.50% (District first and National 53rd) - Not sure how this will figure in the GPA calculations as the percentage scores in CA exams have historically been low
Undergraduation - Distance Education - Bachelor of Commerce in University of Madras (64%) - This was done voluntarily parallel with the CA course and 3.5 years of practical training which is a part of the course
Work Experience
November 2011 - Present - Analyst, ICRA Limited, An associate of Moody's Investors Service.
Joined as a Senior Associate Analyst and was promoted after two years in this position. Involved in operational and financial risk assessment of several corporates in order to comment on their debt servicing capabilities. I have built up considerable sector expertise in few industries - Automobiles, Poultry, Distilleries to name a few. As a part of the job, I have interacted with the top management including MDs and CEOs of the rated entities and the auditors and bankers to such companies. Consistent interaction with in-house research teams, experienced professionals and entrepreneurs has offered me adequate learning opportunities.
(As a part of the CA course, I was an apprentice with a well reputed traditional audit firm in South India for 3.5 years and was involved in audit and tax advisory engagements with few corporates)
Extracurriculars
1) Completed 4 out of 8 music grades conducted by Trinity College of Music, London and Royal College of Music, London - Also used to play the Keyboard and Guitar (Not anymore)
2) Black belt in martial arts
3) Several adventure activities and a good bit of travelling
4) An active toastmaster for the past 2 years
Target B schools (not very clear as yet)
INSEAD looks attractive but my first choice would be a two year course. Would love to get into Booth for their track record in Finance.
I am looking at finance and consulting options. I am yet to zero in on a list of "THE" universities. Hope you can offer some pointers on that.
Post MBA plan
I wish to add more dimensions to my father's financial consulting venture (debt syndication). My current job profile as a debt analyst is also in sync with this. I have gotten closer to business models throughout the short career I've had and I wish to take it further with an MBA.
Questions - My undergrad score is bad. Can be justified though. How badly will it affect me? And my GMAT attempt was not supplemented by adequate preparation. Contemplating another attempt with some additional prep. Your comments awaited
