Profile Evaluation - 680 - Q51 V28 [#permalink] New post 02 Jul 2013, 07:20
Hi,

I am planning to apply for various programs in the Fall 2014 intake, would be obliged if you evaluate my profile and help me decide that shall I go for retake? Currently I'm about 70-80% sure of a retake of GMAT exam

  • Demographics: Indian / Male / Age 26
  • Academics: Bachelors in Electronics and communication Engineering, 2009. 68%. Delhi University: Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology(NSIT), India.
  • GMAT: 680 (Q51, V28) - Yet to get the official score

Work Experience: 5 years at the time i will join a b school
  • Working as an Assistant Manager in a Business Research Firm
  • Manage team that conducts primary and secondary research and analyses information using Porter's 5 forces model, PESTLE analysis and other framework to conduct market analysis
  • Have international working experience
  • Currently as a part of Category Team with a target of certain % savings on a billion dollar annual spend
  • Have been part of interview panel for recruitment
  • Have mentored and trained several new-joiners to shape up their respective careers
  • Supported in Business Development through new product creation

Extra Curricular
  • During college have conducted several events for college festivals
  • a few more similar things during post-college

Targeting
  • R1 or R2 for 2014 fall intake

Target Colleges
  • Georgetown
  • Indiana: Kelley
  • Broad: Michigan State
  • Tepper
  • Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Post MBA Goal
  • To enter into strategic planning for a procurement of indirect materials
  • Basically climb up the ladder in category management

I am confused whether to give another attempt at GMAT or not, primarily because I never scored this low in verbal during my mocks and low verbal might give a negative impression on the ad coms.

Simply put, your verbal score is too low and admissions will question if you have the verbal abilities to complete the program. Thus, you must re-take your exam and score significantly higher on this part of the exam. I would not recommend submitting applications before your GMAT issue is resolved.

Good luck.

Thanks for the quick response.

Kimberly, I have prepared to give another attempt during mid-August. Post that I would be still left with a couple of months to prepare at least 2-4 college apps during Round 1. And the rest of the colleges can be targeted in Round 2, primarily because I do not want to sacrifice quality by rushing over with things.

I hope my plan is decent enough. Please confirm

That sounds like a plan. You do have a lot of work to do before you submit -- so make sure you make studying and preparing your applications a priority.
