Profile Evaluation - GMAT 690 [#permalink] New post 02 Sep 2012, 11:03

I request a profile evaluation for Full-Time MBA Programs. I want to know where I stand among the competition.

Bio: 23 yrs old, Male, Indian

GMAT: 690 (Q49, V35)

    • School (1992-2006): Green Fields School, New Delhi (Among Top public schools in Delhi): 10th Class: 93.2% - School Topper and 12th Class: 88.4% - 3rd Rank
    • College (2006-2010): Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi (A grade university in Delhi): 81% - 5th Rank in College, Top 5% in University – GPA should be pretty on this basis

Work Experience: 2 Yrs (will be 3yrs by the time I start MBA) - HCL Technologies, Noida (India’s 4th largest IT company)

Achievements and Demonstration of Leadership Potential:
    • Consistently ranked among top 5 students till class 6th and school topper from class 7th to 10th.
    • Full Scholarship for class 11th and 12th
    • School Head Boy in Class 12th and Leader of the Student Council
    • Regular participation in Rotaract Club Activities in college (Social Service, Blood Donation Camps etc)
    • Organized events at College Annual Tech Fests
    • Livewire Award for productivity improvement in HCL within 1 yr
    • Leading a team of 6 developers for an Automation Initiative within the project that generated $165K over 10 months.
    • Promoted to Lead Engineer within 1yr 8 months – fastest promotion – on the basis of high efficiency and ability to innovate

Why MBA?
I understand Technology pretty well, and while on the job, understood very well how we can monetize technology. Whether it is a few lines of code or some big machine, it is just another part of an algorithm, a process that is used to generate a product/service and consequently money.

I’m going slightly philosophic here, but what I want to say is that I have good technical and analytical skills that help me understand the tools of the trade and how the tools are used efficiently to optimize the profit from the trade. I get lots of new ideas to do things in a “better way”, but they’re mostly overlooked by my senior management because they fail to consider a lot of “other factors”. This lack of understand of the “other factors” is the gap in my skill set.

My short term objective is to work as a Technical Manager in an IT or Technology based company. I want to learn how the business is built from the ground up and what keeps it going. It would involve not only the understanding of business and economics, but also the soft skills required to manage people and the leadership ability required to drive them to their best potential. And this is what I want from my MBA course.

In the long term though, I would like to expand the reach of my domain, staying close to Technology, but moving towards Sustainable Development ventures.

I am still researching schools that offer Operations Management as a concentration, as I believe that would be the best stream I could study for my intended purpose. The country of choice is United States, as it is known to have the best B Schools in the world, and also because it’s a dream of mine to see the US! :P

It would be great if you could evaluate my profile and give a picture of where I stand in the long queue for getting an admission into a top 30 US B-School. Please suggest the upper and lower bounds of the B-Schools List where I have a good chance of getting selected. (I’m not going to make a program out of it ;))

It’s a pretty long read isn’t it? :P

P.S.: Also I’d be really obliged if you could let me know of any other good B-Schools outside the US (such as France, Germany etc) that match my profile.
