Hi reatsaint:

Thanks for reaching out.

I am going to assume that you are making a pretty decent salary right now as an ERP consultant working in the United States. You might even be in the six-figure range and this is important consideration to take into account. Generally speaking – Taking two years out of your career at this point is really not advisable. I believe that if you do the math you will see that the ROI is simply not there, especially when you compare your options – full versus part-time.

Another factor is that you really should not be a "career switcher" at this stage in your professional life. This would be an additional reason why I would advocate going to a part-time or accelerated program.

I really think that it will all boil down to how long you expect to be in the United States and on your current project. If this is a long-term assignment, I would consider a part-time program located near your worksite. If you do not expect to be there for the next three years, I would consider global executive MBA programs.

I do not want to sound as if the MBA (in your case) should serve as a "rubber stamp", but you probably already possess many of the general management skills you can gain through a full-time program anyway. For you, I would imagine that the MBA is simply proof to others within your organization (for example) that you have the skills to branch out beyond the technical domain. Again, this would be additional justification for attending a part-time, executive or accelerated MBA program.

With respect to your school choices, I have helped clients get into most of the program you list. However, I am a little uncertain as to why you chose to use programs. I do understand that INSEAD is a consulting powerhouse, but what about the other programs – the geography seems very concentrated.

Respectfully,
Paul Lanzillotti
