Profile evaluation and a unique question [#permalink] New post 25 Apr 2012, 23:15
Hi Jennifer, Linda,

I would be very grateful if you could evaluate my profile for the target schools and answer the unique query I have mentioned in the end...

Female/30/ Indian
GMAT - 710

Workex:
6 years in Insurance (same company) - cross functional (have worked in almost all departments)
Best performer in the company - I alone generate 10% of the company's topline. Have received awards in consecutive quarters for the performance
Led a sales team of 200 people for retail sales at one point. Now lead a team of 40 for Corporate sales
Steady professional growth. 3 promotions in 6 years (4th on the way.. but likely only after admissions decisions)

Academics:
Undergrad - 3.2/4.0 (Computer Science from OK-ish place)
Grad - 3.1/4.0 (Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from India's top 5 B-school)

Extra-Currics:
Participated in debating etc. in school but not much to show in terms of achievement
EXTREMELY Passionate about dancing... but again not much to show as achievement

Post-MBA Goal:
Having worked in sales have always been interested about what drives sales people. Would like to work with a Consult for few years and then open my own Performance Management and Organizational Development consultancy.

Target programs:
1 year MBA: Kellogg, Emory, Cornell
2 Year MBA: HBS, Sloan, Yale, Columbia

Would be grateful if you could provide a school by school assessment

Now.... The Unique Question
Hubby has been admitted to HBS and will start the program in August. Ideally I would like to join him in US immediately. Assuming that I submit all my applications (Round 1) prior to resigning from my role, will the fact that I have quit my job reflect negatively in the interviews, come December?

Eagerly awaiting your response. Am in a major quandry :?

Anu,

I am concerned that your academics are a bit weak given your demographic for Kellogg, HBS, Sloan, and Columbia. You are more competitive at Emory, and Yale. Also, Cornell's one-year program really wants people with advanced degrees. If your PG diploma is the fourth year of post-secondary education, I'm not sure it would qualify. Please check.

I can't say with 100% certainty that leaving your job after you apply and before you are accepted would not negatively affect your acceptance chances. I believe that given your reasons and your excellent record at work combined with the hope that you would use your time in the U.S. to volunteer and expand your skill set or contribute to something, you would be fine. But nothing is certain in admissions. (I'm assuming that you would not be able to work in the U.S. if your husband is here on a visa. If you could change jobs or transfer, then you would be fine.)

Best,
Linda
