I am targetting FALL 2012. Please advise if I should go for Round 1 or round 2

Indian Male
Age : 24
GMAT : 710 (Quant 47, Verbal 41)

Bachelors : Electrical and Electronics Engineering

GPA: 3.7 (University Topper)

Work Experience: 2.5 years (present)

1.5 Years in Tata in Resource management side managing 1000 resources for a client.

1 year as module leader in IT managing 6 to 7 associates.

Programs Focussed : Business Strategy, operations and Supply chain management

Post MBA Goals:

Work in Consulting industry and after few years start my own business in educational sector(Have some few ideas. I need an MBA to fine tune it and implement it cost effectively)

Strengths:
Exceptional academic record with several awards
Strong recommendations from my managers
Work experience is composed of many managerial activities where I have some leadership experiences, though I worked in a IT consulting
Had owned a retail shop for 5 years along with my father and have some business experience
Initiated some club activities at college level

Weakness:
My number of years of experience

I have shortlisted some schools for consulting based upon my research. I am comcentrating on mainly US schools

Reach: (I don't know if its out of reach considering my no of years of exp)
Kellogg
Michigan Ross

Competitive:
North Carolina - Kenan Flager
Dartmouth - TUCK
Duke - FUQUA
Emory University Goizueta

Safe:
Texas Mccombs
Rochester - Simon

Kinldy let me know what other schools(Tier 2 also), I can add to this list which are good in Business Srategy or consulting.
Also since I am an international applicant, let me know the chance of getting into these schools since their international acceptance rates are low comparitively

Also if anyone can answer this question, it would be great.

Whether schools consider me as a 2.5 yr professional or a 3.5 yr professional while evaluating. Since I am applying for Fall admissions which is nearly 1 year later, will the schools take this condition into account, as I would be working full time until I join MBA?

Hi manisjce,

With regards to whether you should apply to Round 1 or 2, you should apply when you feel your application is most ready. There is no clear advantage to applying to a particular round. The only exception is to avoid applying to the last round, as the acceptance rates are notoriously lower.

With regards to other programs you are interested in, do you have a location preference in the US? There is a large advantage to attending an MBA program in the location where you would like to work post-graduation.

Even more than the years of work experience that you have, business schools want to see increased responsibility and leadership experience in your career.

I hope this was of help.

Cheers,

Conrad and the Stacy Blackman Team
