Hey Guys,

Thanks for hosting this thread, I'm interested in an MBA in the next year or two and was wondering if you can let me know what my chances are and address some of my concerns?

27 y/o male (at matriculation)
3.2 GPA in Mechanical Engineering from a top 30 private school
Extra curriculars: Lab research assistant, TA for upper level courses, VP of school's chapter of Society of Automotive Engineers
GMAT: 750
Work experience:
-Completed a two year stint at a blue chip industrial company's (think Caterpillar and the like) engineering development rotation program
-3 years as a manufacturing engineer at a major U.S. auto company (GM, Ford)

Outside of work: Big brothers/big sisters mentor and am working to help establish a STEM arm of a nonprofit that teaches english to students in Africa

Post-MBA Goals: To move to consulting after graduation for a few years and ultimately land an operations leadership job at a large manufacturing company long term

I know the GPA isn't great but hopefully it's slightly offset by my GMAT and the other things I was doing during undergrad. I think schools in the 10-12 (UVA Darden, Duke, Cornell, Michigan) range might be where I fit. Is this realistic? Also, will the company move after completing my rotational program look bad?

Thanks!

Company move won't be a problem as long as you have a good story to tell and your career seems in line with your goals, which is what the adcoms are looking for. I think your engineering academics coupled with your high GMAT score will eliminate any concerns that you can't handle b-school, so I wouldn't worry about GPA. i think you are targeting a good range of schools and should have a nice chance at them with a well articulated vision for why you want the MBA and why now is a good time. Let us know if we can help you pull it together.
