Profile Evaluation and school suggestion [#permalink]
05 Nov 2011, 10:10
I'd like a profile evaluation, but I'd also like some advice in general about which schools to consider applying to. My goal is to get an MBA in Europe exclusively, but I'm not sure which schools would be a good fit for me to even consider (much less to get into).
Male/25 yrs/American (would be 27 at matriculation) Major in Software Engineering / Minor in Russian at Public Ivy 3.91 GPA 710 GMAT (47q/41v/6awa)
2.5 years of work experience (4 at matriculation) as software engineer at major defense contractor / operating system vendor.
Extracurriculars at school: * Music (men's choir) * Teaching foreign students English. * Raising money for college's pediatric cancer treatment fund.
Extracurriculars after school: * Walking / Adopting off orphan dogs * Coaching sports team.
Hobbies: * Cooking * Linguistics (Learning German and French) * Laser Tag\
Languages spoken: * Russian * Brazilian Portuguese (intermediate)
Reasons for MBA: * First, I want to unify the technology background that I already have (i.e. my education and my work experience) with a thorough business education. It was an underlying theme at my college that my field (i.e. high-tech) is about more than technology - it's about how the technology gets integrated into people's lives. Likewise, receiving this business education would enable me to help deliver technology to the world more effectively. * Second (and the reason for European schools), I would like to work in an international context. I feel that receiving my MBA at a school in Europe would help me towards that goal, as I would not be getting a US-centric education as I would in the US.
Post MBA: * I would like to work in a managerial role or a consulting role in the high-tech industry.
In short, I'd like to get an MBA (and, preferably, a post-MBA position) in a Western European country; I've been looking at ESADE, IE, IESE, HEC, INSEAD, St. Gallen, and Mannheim (i.e. Spain, France, Switzerland, and Germany). Are there schools in different countries (or schools in the aforementioned countries) that I should consider?

Hi, As you said you Europe is your preference so these are good schools that you are looking at. You may add LSB,SDA Bocconi and oxford to the list. Most students going for mba are from tech background and wanting to move towards tha managerial side. Make sure you stand out from them. All the best

Well, would I be able to get some input on how my profile would stand up if I were to apply with these credentials? Maybe something like the "percentage chance" style that Poets and Quants does?

Hello sir. I don't got percentages for you, but I do have an evaluation. IF those are the schools you apply to, you'll probably get in somewhere, and likely even more than somewhere. INSEAD is a bit of a stretch for you (at least it seems with what you have written here), and at the others you should be within reach. Anyhow, why not drop us a line? We have a fella who has done wonders in getting people into European programs, especially INSEAD, and speaks a whole bunch of those Euro-languages himself http://www.precisionessay.com/services/ ... sultation/

Hi, Thank you the chances you have. It is up to you on how well you present yourself in essays. Even after having a stellar gmat and profile many students mess up in the interview section. SO things like these can not be predicted rather you need be cautious at every step so you can make in to the given schools. We can’t tell you in term sof percentage
