Hi there,

Thanks for posting. It sounds as though you have a solid, if somewhat over-represented profile. You will want to do all that you can to showcase what makes you unique among other Indian IT applicants. Think about your personal side, and about non-technical skills, strengths and character traits that you can highlight. Be sure to think about evidence of teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.

In terms of one-year MBA programs, they are less common in the US than in say Europe. Within the US, you could look into Goizueta, Mendoza, BU, Olin, Thunderbird, Katz, Hough (FL). Johnson, Kellogg & probably Marshall would likely be reach programs, but you could choose 1 to apply to just to give it a shot if you were focused on those. In Europe there are many more options. You asked about schools like HBS & Stanford-- they do not have one-year programs, and currently based on the info you provided it would be difficult for you to gain entry to those programs given the caliber & volume of applicants that apply. But you would likely have a shot at some of the one-year options listed above. Good luck and keep us posted!

Hey Jen,

Hope you are doing great.

I have got through in Simon (University OF rochester) with scholarship in one year program.

Emory and Mannhiem DInged me :|

I got through in KATZ (University OF Pittsburgh) no news on Scholarship yet.

Still waiting to hear from Hough and Purdue.

Please rate these colleges and suggest which one will be better overall. I was excited bout SImon but fees is almost at par with top 10 colleges I dont want to take that a big education loan :\

Hi Abhinav,

Congratulations on your acceptances so far, and scholarship at Simon, that is great. In terms of choosing schools, certainly you can review rankings for general reputation, and review in-depth school profiles on sites like BusinessWeek. You should thoroughly research, if you haven't already, the hiring statistics/employment profiles on each school's website. Consider what companies often hire from each program, average salaries, strengths of the school especially in areas you are considering working in. Many schools do have the tuition costs along the lines of Simon; Hough may be lower but the others likely similar. At least you got a scholarship there, that is definitely a consideration. In terms of deciding if the tuition is worth it, consider how the specific school will help with your goals and potentially with your post-MBA salary, and how worth it the investment will be. It is very common for MBAs to pay off their tuition costs with low-interest rate educational loans, paid back with post-MBA salary over 5-15 years after graduation.

Keep me posted and wishing you the best !
