Profile Evaluation + B School Selection [#permalink] New post 17 Oct 2011, 20:29
Hi Everyone,

I am a candidate from India and I have been working as a center Manager since last 2.5 years.I want to apply for an MBA in 2012.

GMAT Score: 700 (q 49, v 35)
AWA Score: 5.5
Colleges Seleceted:IESE, ISB, Stern,Said B school, and Brigham Young.
Graduation: BBA (Honors)
GPA: 2.8 out of 4 (not sure though because i have been the topper of my college)
Graduation Percentage:66.5%

I am targeting Top 20 colleges for MBA. I wish to apply in R2. I am a bit confused regarding consultancy services. I don't want to be late in applying.
Should i opt for a consultant for writing Essays or i can do it myself?

I heard that European colleges such as IESE and Said require TOEFL or IELTS. is it true?

With the given GMAT score & profile, how many colleges should i select and which ones?
Do i need to appear for English Proficiency Test for any of the above mentioned colleges?

Hi mannslove,

Schools have some language requirements which they waive if you meet there criteria. Going to their website will give you clearer and updated version. However do check you have mentioned the correct gpa score as it seems low given you held some position in college.
Round 2 is generally more competitive so all the very best. Writing your own essays is always better as readymade articles start to sound the same to admission officers who read so many applications. Also it creates a negative impression.
The best way to choose a bschool is based on career goals. You need to see if the schools will help you realising those goals. Apart from that factors like what the school specializes in, geography location including urban/rural factor, size of classes in school (big class or small class), alumni success rate. Also you need to keep in consideration what recruiters tend to come on campus. You can talk to alumni’s and career center wings to know further the opportunities the school provides you.

Hey mannslove,
See our answers below:

Should i opt for a consultant for writing Essays or i can do it myself?
Depends on you! Lots of people use consultants. Do you need help getting your stories down, getting your writing up? How much?

I heard that European colleges such as IESE and Said require TOEFL or IELTS. is it true?
Yep!

With the given GMAT score & profile, how many colleges should i select and which ones?
A good start is five, which would include two dream schools, two schools at which you are competitive, and one safety school. Although keep in mind "the more the merrier"

Do i need to appear for English Proficiency Test for any of the above mentioned colleges?
Yep.

As for other schools, are aiming for the US or outside? and what are your goals?
