Profile Evaluation - College Topper with break in career [#permalink] New post 10 Aug 2011, 01:40
I am an Indian, female, currently NOT working. I have a work experience of 4 yrs and then took a break for 3 years

to take care of my baby. I have 88% in my high school, 84% in my 12th and 84% in undergraduate (BE) school. I was

the TOPPER from college and secured 3rd rank(out of 198 students) at University level.

I don't have much extra curricular's. I am looking to apply to schools in the US. As for MBA I want to specialize in

General Management and Finance. I am getting atleast 650 in my practice tests now. Any help on which 5 schools I

should aim for. Hope you can help. Thanks

Oh a tough one!
Not working for three years is tough. A lot of it will depend on what sort of things you DID do during your three years off, and what sort of stories you can come up with.
As for evaluating your profile, We need a lot more info from you to do do in a good manner: i.e. about your leadership, your goals, your success, your promotions etc.
Secondly, there are SO many programs out there, can you narrow it down a bit? Are there places you for sure want to go? places you don;t want to go? Do you prefer small towns or big cities? East coast or West coast? Are scholarships an issue?
I can give you some advice, but I need a wee bit more detail first.

Thanks for the reply.
Secondly, there are SO many programs out there, can you narrow it down a bit? Full time MBA in accounting, general mgmt.

Professionally, I think, I was good. I left the job to come to US after marriage. It was a bold yet thoughtful decision I took to take care of my baby knowing I would be in trouble later with my career. I didn't want my baby to go through the bad childhood I had. This is true and is my story :-D

Do you prefer small towns or big cities? East coast or West coast? Are there places you for sure want to go? East coat or west coast doesn't matter. I want to try getting into top 30.

places you don;t want to go? My wish list for now is McCombs, Haas, Tepper, UCLA, Kelley. I am currently looking at higher acceptance colleges. Is that a good strategy. Could you help me in selecting my 5 schools for the exam.

Are scholarships an issue? Scholarship is not an issue.

Well to be honest, to have a better chance at those schools, you would have to hit at least somewhere in the 680-700. If you hit a 650 Haas, Anderson are very far stretches for a 650. Tepper and McCombs would be stretches for you, and at Kelley you would be competitive. So if that's the GMAT score you can hope, you may have to scale back your plans a bit looking at schools like: Urbana, Texas A&M, Mendoza.

Now this doesn't mean you have to totally forget your dream schools! But you should open yourself up to a wider mix of schools to ensure that you build yourself a balanced strategy.
