Profile Evaluation - College Topper with break in career [#permalink] New post 10 Aug 2011, 01:42
I am an Indian, female, currently NOT working. I have a work experience of 4 yrs and then took a break for 3 years

to take care of my baby. I have 88% in my high school, 84% in my 12th and 84% in undergraduate (BE) school. I was

the TOPPER from college and secured 3rd rank(out of 198 students) at University level.

I don't have much extra curricular's. I am looking to apply to schools in the US. As for MBA I want to specialize in

General Management and Finance. I am getting atleast 650 in my practice tests now. Any help on which 5 schools I

should aim for. Hope you can help. Thanks

Currently my list is McCombs, Haas, Tepper CMU, UCLA, Kelley. Pls suggest.

Are you currently living in the US? Do you have a green card/permanent residency? Was your work experience in the US/Europe?

If you are ready to restart your full-time professional career (and applying to b-school suggests that you're ready now - because the hours you maintain in b-school is similar to a full-time job), then should focus on getting back into the workforce now and working a few years. You're not really doing yourself any good by going back to school with such a long layoff from your last job. Of course, getting a job now isn't exactly easy, but trying to get a job after b-school (and a 5 year layoff) isn't going to be any easier either. Right now, any adcom will have concerns about whether you're genuinely willing and prepared to go back to working full-time -- they can only take your word for it, and that may not be enough.

There's really no easy answers for this, as with most issues dealing with balancing between child rearing and a full-on, business career. But getting back into the workforce is probably your better bet.
