You are a fantastic candidate and have a great profile!

( I love writing that)

You have a clear history of success after success, and have proven time and again to be the hardest working and the most successful. If you show this to the business schools in the right way, and make them believe in you, no school is out of range for you. You have to get that GMAT of course, but I am sure with the right amount of studying you will nail it.

Honestly, I would say if you are applying R1, keep most of your applications ( except one or two) in the Top 10. If you add Tepper and Ross to 4-5 Top 10 schools, and you have fantastic essays and great recommendations, I think you can get some great results

Aha! I have a whole post about that question here: to-retake-or-not-to-retake-that-is-the-question-indian-153716.html

In your case, if you think you can get a higher GMAT by working more, YES! delay! A 720 should be your target. A 680 is a bit low, esp. for an Indian candidate, but with a 720 or higher, the sky is the limit. And it's worth it. Even if you have to wait one more year.
