For round 3, I hate to be blunt but your chances are marginal. Here are my reasons: unfortunately, you come from an applicant pool that is so large that it, in itself, becomes a disadvantage. Secondly, you're looking to gain entry into an industry that is more traditional, more original for MBA applicants' post-MBA goals. This means that chances are schools have already rounded out the schools in terms of finance-focus folks in earlier rounds. In this last round of b-school admission, schools tend to look for someone who has a special background, something additional and spectacular to offer. You're from India, with IT pre-MBA, and a finance post-MBA goal. There's really not a whole of difference between you and the folks that schools have already admitted in the earlier rounds. My suggestion to you is to wait and apply come fall for the class of 2014.

Thank you bakfed for confirming.
I have another question. Hope you can help me Do you have an idea about the EMBA programs ?
I was considering Columbia EMBA / NYU Part Time MBA (Langone program). I understand that getting into finance from these programs is tough but I want to apply for an MBA this year (due to some personal constraints).
Total Executive MBA tuition and fees for September 2010 and January 2011 entry: $148,320 Cost of NYU Langone: around $110K
Thanks,

I can't talk much about the EMBA programs, but it does seem to me that you'll probably fit a bit better with an 8-year experience. However, EMBA programs, as far as I know, are for people who look in staying at the same job function/industry, but to use the degree to garner a promotion/raise (not sure about this). If you feel that an EMBA would suit you better, by all means go for it. Other than this, I don't know much about EMBA programs.

Most of the candidates of EMBAs have work experience of more than 10 years. Moreover, there is not much of campus career placement in EMBAs just because EMBAs usually don't need one. You may want to look at few accelerated/1Y MBA program, but again, your best bet would be to apply with your best stories in R1 next year rather than in R3 this year.
Good luck!

Thanks, EMBA in most of the cases is part time and for people with > 10 years of work ex. Obviously it will be difficult for anyone to search for job in the same city for EMBA to make sense. Would recommend that you go through these two posts which will help you in choosing the right program: http://blog.apphelp.co.in/2009/09/27/to ... -programs/http://blog.apphelp.co.in/2009/03/02/ac ... -programs/Apphelp Team
