You are definitely in a sweet spot as far as Bschool recruiters are concerned. 3.9 with a 770 plus work at McKinsey... this is exactly the pool that H/S/W are drawing students from. So you definitely fit the bill. Next important thing is to make sure your applications are making you into a BETTER candidate and not a worse one - so precision, and passion, and originality are all the order of the day.

As for where to apply, well I'm not one to tell you, but I'd definitely suggest applying to more than two schools. I mean even if I did end up going to HBS, I applied to a LOT more schools: you never know what results or options you may have, and you want to cover every angle.

Finally, for your question regarding recommenders - much better to go for less VIP folks who ACTUALLY know you - you don't want to get a mediocre recommendation from anyone, no matter how important, so if they VIP doesn't at least like you very much, it may not be worth your while, and you may be better off sticking to the folks who know you

Hope all this helps, and best fo luck with you on your application next year. Visit the schools if you can!
