Profile evaluation for my target schools [#permalink] New post 04 Aug 2013, 19:14
Hello,

I'm 27/M with around 4 yrs of industry experience by the time the program starts. Here is my profile.

1) Currently working in India as a Management Consultant in one of the big 4 in the public sector domain.

2) Previously worked with an Online Marketing and Research Start-up for two years. Got promoted to a Manager position in the second year and managed a team of 5-7 people. I've been involved with various high responsibility roles throughout the small organisation and secured them a multitude of new clients.

3)GMAT 670(Q 44, V 38). Should I retake? I don't have much time left before the applications.

4)Graduated from a private college in the US with a BSC in Computer Engineering.

5)I have been running a small support group with an NGO which teaches entrepreneurial skills to rural households. I started working with the NGO in 2004 i.e even before I started college. Discontinued when I left for college for six years and started working with them again in 2010 when I returned. It's now been over 3 years.

5) Prince2 certified.

6)Target Programs:- University of Hong Kong, HEC Paris, HKUST, NUS, NTU, ISB.

7) Move out from public sector consulting in to deeper management consulting and become involved in mergers and acquisitions, risk analysis, management restructuring etc.

My # 1 choice is ISB. I am not sure how the admissions committe at ISB is going to look at my GMAT score.

I think you may need to consider retaking the GMAT. I would not be as concerned about the average score at ISB but the 80% range. Your score is below the 80% range which puts your application at considerably higher risk than someone who is hitting, say, a 700 GMAT. Granted your work history is in consulting which will come across as more valuable in the b-school classroom than if you had stuck with your computer science education, and the fact you went to school in the US will also be a differentiator, but if you think you can study and pull off a 700, you would be adding some valuable insurance to your profile in my view. I think you can make it in on your current profile, it just lowers your percentages by doing so with the 670. There are simply too many applicants with similar backgrounds but better numbers.
