40 year old
US citizen
Indian origin
B.Com (first class)
MS in Accounting US (3.53 GPA) 1997
passed CPA exam 1998
15 years in the IT field (not an engineer but a business analyst type role
managerial experience oveseeing a team of 5 resources and an offshore team
comp level is mid 100K
opportunity cost is 400K and lost promotions
current title - manager software engineering

option1 part time MBA in a major metro area (bay area/NYC/DC)
option 2: full time top 10 only

1. will i need over 650 gmat?
2. any disadvantage to age race and national origin and background in IT?

reason for MBA: want to work in finance at a technology firm specializing in product acquisitions or at a VC firm evaluating technology startups

what did i do in 15 years

1. worked for 10 years doing IT consulting with clients across the country at a small IT company.
2. Worked as a financial systems analyst for 3 years at a media firm and then 2 years now as a manager of software enginneering.
3. went through the immigration process and became a US citizen from a international student. the effort this takes should not be underestimated.

the way the titles are setup it appears that I am an engineer, but my role can be best defined as one that bridges the gap between business and technology.

realistically what is the best option for me to consider a mid level career change.

thanks for your time

Considering your age, the best option fro you would be to go in for EMBA which are designed for experienced professionals with 10-15 years of experience.

thanks. any idea on EMBA opportunities

i thought it made sense to do an EMBA at a director or VP level not a manager level.
also how does it help a career option at a cost of 140-150K

Applicants at manager level also go for EMBA.
Now it is up to you to evaluate if it is a viable career option for you at the cost of 140140-150K. You need to dig deeper to know how the skills you will acquire at EMBA will take you further on your career path and if that progress/advancement will be worth your money or not.
