Profile Evaluation GMAT 660 [#permalink] New post 02 Oct 2012, 05:28
Hi All,

Can you please evaluate my profile and suggest if I stand a chance at any of the below colleges. Please give an honest reply in case you find that some (or all) of the colleges aimed are not realistic with this profile (specially with my GMAT score on the lower side).

Indian, Male
Gmat: 660 (Q50, V29)
WEX: 6 Yrs (Business Analyst in IB (RBS, Morgan Stanley)
FRM (GARP) (Level I + Level II )
CFA Level 1 Cleared
No International Experience
Grad: Engineer(NIT) (8.4/10)
Class X: 90%
Class XII: 80%

Post MBA Plan: To continue working as Business Analyst/Snr Business Analyst in technology division of Leading Investment Banks.

Target Colleges:
1) ISB, Hyderabad
2) IE SPAIN
3) HKUST - Full time MBA
4) LBS - MIF

I have started preparing essays for HKUST.

Many Thanks

Please do not feel so disheartened by your GMAT score. Undoubtedly, GMAT score is one of the important aspects of a candidate's profile, but an average GMAT score can always be offset by making other aspects of your profile stronger i.e. essays, resume, and recommendation letters. I have helped students with their essays that got them admission into top schools such as LBS and Chicago Booth with only 680 GMAT score.

So work on making your application package solid . Brainstorm your accomplishments during these six years and see how you can position them well for different essay prompts. Essay writing is a time consuming but rewarding process. Put in your best efforts.

Good luck on your application.

Well, a lot of your chances will depend also on other things we don't know. You haven't yet elaborated on your work experience, nor on your academic experience and extra stuff too. so it's hard to give a REAL evaluation. (you are of course invited to post more, and we'll get back to you!).

Buuuuut, as things are looking, LBS will be a far stretch for you, and ISB will be no cakewalk either. So yes, you have to work on making great essays, but also, you have to come up with a reasonable strategy, which makes sense given the facts.

Hi,

You have an average GMAT Score. However your work experience and academics are decent and impressive.

The list of B Schools you have selected are very good and among the top B Schools. As per your GMAT Score IE Spain and HKUST are among the list where you can apply and your acceptance rate is quite high compared to other B Schools you have mentioned in the list. However you can also apply for ESADE, Emory and University of Wisconsin. A low GMAT score can certainly be offset by submitting a good essay and working hard on your application and interviews. Most schools see a combination of all these things to grant an admission.

It is highly advisable in your case to focus on your application evaluation essays. This is where you can demonstrate your leadership qualities, achievements, professional vision and other abilities. A well presented and perfectly written essay is absolutely critical to make a strong case for yourself during the final interview.
