Profile Evaluation: GMAT 700, 9 years work experience [#permalink]
20 Sep 2012, 07:39
Hello, Came across your forum a couple of days ago. Hope you can help me shortlist schools where I stand a reasonable chance of getting accepted.
MY PROFILE : Age 33, Indian Male EDUCATION : High School: 75.2 % Senior Secondary School: 75.6 % Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from a Government College with 71 % aggregate. GMAT SCORE : Total 700 ( Q 49, V 35) WORK EXPERIENCE: 9 years of total work experience with a Top Indian IT MNC (Infosys). Was deputed in the USA to work for a top US Bank (client) for 6 years. Have been consulting for that US bank in the role of a Project/Change Manager, managing projects in the International portfolio (EMEA, APAC).
I have shortlisted a few schools: US: Fuqua (duke), Johnson (Cornell), Ross (Michigan), Kellogg ( accelerated MBA) India: ISB, IIM-Lucknow (Exec MBA) Europe: IE -Spain
POST MBA Concentrations : Consulting, Strategy, General Mgmt.
Could you please evaluate my candidacy for the above schools and suggest more schools based on my profile?
Thanks!

With 10 years of WE at matriculation and mangagement experience, you should probably be targeting EMBA programs. Your academic marks and GMAT score are going to be below average for your applicant pool if you limit yourself to 2 year FT programs. The EMBA is designed for people with 10 years + and mgt experience, so you might find a more favorable application experience in these programs.

Bryant, Thank you for your response. The reasons behind my interest in full time MBA ( 1 or 2 year) are: 1. I am looking to make a career change from my current job in IT services industry to management / strategy consulting in the short term, then in the long term either stay with consulting or move to industry (finance). Is it a very common path MBA graduates follow? 2. My current job situation does not offer much scope for an exec MBA, plus there aren't many good exec MBA programs in India, and I currently do not have a visa to work in the US. So given my age, seem like I have missed the MBA boat ? Are there any EMBA programs which are full time? Please advise! Cheers! peekay

Peekay--you definitely have not missed the boat. I am just trying to think on your easiest application track. I would target the one year programs, then. These programs also have more leniency vs. the full time programs which are statistics hounds and very picky about not upsetting the apple cart when it comes to their rankings.

Thanks Bryant. Which 1 year MBA programs would you suggest based on my profile- US / Non-US?
Thanks!

look at Kellogg, Johnson, Goizueta, Marshall and maybe Notre Dame. I am not as familiar with the one year European or Asian programs.
