Hi Everbody,

First of all , I would like to that everybody for their contributions to this forum. I have completed my GMAT and have few questions for Applications. The details are as below

GMAT Date: 21/05/2012
GMAT Score: 690 (Q49 V34)
AWA: 4.5/6 ( :( )
GPA :2.8/4 ( Studied from reputed NIT)
Work Ex: 5 years in a reputed MNC
Feild: Manufacturing
Extra Curriculars: Was part of many commitees in College. Also held posts in these committes ( For Eg. Treasurer of Literary and Debating Commitee)

I dont want to take the test again.

My questions are as follows:

1) Which colleges can I apply ( As of now I am planning to apply in NTU,NUS, ISB, Ohio, Texas )?
2) Is my AWA score very less? Will it affect my admission in any University?
3) What effect will my GPA have on my admissions?

Waiting for replies to clear my doubts
Thanking in advance

Hard to comment without a little more info, but I'd say your scores are competitive with the programs to which you're applying with the exception of maybe Texas.

Your AWA scores will not be a huge concern, but based on your post here, you will definitely need to have your essays reviewed by someone to ensure they are easy to read and make sense. The AWA is not a barrier or huge consideration factor, but the essays are. And if you cannot communicate well verbally, that could be a red flag.

Your GPA is also a concern, but given the programs to which you are applying, if you went to a good program with a strong number of quant classes, you could be ok.

Hope this helps,
-James Young

I don't think your stats would be a problem at McCombs. I would be more worried about ISB, since they look more heavily on GMAT/GPA.

Your GPA is a bit low, is that a converted GPA? I heard that converted GPAs are a bit lower than US custom. If so, may be you can put the GPA into context. For example, are you the top 50 percentile, etc. Beyond that, I wouldn't mention your GPA, since you can't help that anymore.

I would try to come up with a convincing story on why you want an MBA, and what you foresee yourself doing after your MBA.

hi souhmba,
the info i was curious about was where you went to college (was it a competitive program), what has been your career progression to date, and what do you plan to do with your MBA - specifically - after graduating.

the first point is not possible to change or alter, but it's important context in doing an evaluation. and the second 2 points - while it might not seem as important - can often be the difference between acceptance and denial.

hope that's helpful,
-james young
