Hi,
Post college activities/school
- I am a finance and private equity lawyer with 4+ PQE (senior associate now) and have a great deal of exposure in banking regulatory work as well
- Worked amongst the top 2 law firms in the country and a secondment to a foreign bank in India (legal work for their corporate and IB division)
- mentor to associates at various levels and lectures on finance for non-finance lawyers and new associates and trainees
- handled a variety of domestic and international clients (including the largest banks and private equity funds in the world)
- led a variety of transactions (including setting up of a bank, structured bank exits and portfolio sales)
- member of the advisory board of a not for profit project in the education sector; advisor to an NGO in the education sector and advised on sourcing foreign funds and recommended a payment system (6 months plus)
During college
- Internships - 2 years - including 3 foreign internships with international law firms in main land europe
- initiated college development activities including modification of the curriculum and collaboration with law firms, recommended introduction of diplomas to improve the learning curve of students and keep abreast with latest legal developments circumventing time laden bureaucratic process in a government controlled university
- academics - rank 3 in high school and top 5% during 5 years in college and 3rd rank in last semester (gpa conversion not available)
- member of various committees in college (including the legal aid cell) and head of the recruitment committee for 2 years
- voluntary work for an NGO (supporting abandoned children of sex workers) during college and assisted them in their food procurement program; occasional educational lessons
GMAT
- studying for the GMAT
Post MBA goals
- short term - get a better understanding of commercials of finance and private equity transactions - work with a financial institution/fund which have a focus on India; Only FIs/funds where legal skills can be used and mba skills can be applied to some extent - mba for gaining better sense of commercials, developing client relationships, networking
- long term - open a law firm with a focus on private equity and finance
- not frustrated with law, not doing the mba to change career but adding an additional skill set, networking etc
