Profile Evaluation - Indian Male (25 years old)- 670 GMAT [#permalink] New post 24 Oct 2012, 09:37
Hi,

I was hoping for a quick profile evaluation.
670 GMAT (Quant 49, VA 32)

Educational Qualifications - Did Comp Sc Engineering from average Indian College with 70.2% (they do not report GPA separately); I am also a CFA level 3 candidate and completed FRM Part 1

Professional Experience - Worked for one year in Grail research (business research and consulting company); then in another business research company for 1.8 years

Extracurriculur - While I was in College, I was the volunteer coordinator for Delhi region of a global NGO. And had also started and led a social service club in college which conducted various activities. Still volunteer but not regularly
Played guitar for college band, and now learning kickboxing (muay thai)

Since I am deeply passionate about finance, I was looking to apply at HEC Master in International Finance, Oxford (Msc in Financial Economics). How far away is Stern and Columbia for me as a target college. I can finish my CFA and FRM and get 1-2 more years of rigorous finance experience for those colleges

Additionally, which places can I apply right now (good B-schools for finance) and safely expect to get it?

Are you asking about MBA or MiF programs?

I am looking at MIF from only HEC and Oxford. For the rest of the colleges, I am looking at MBA (but these colleges should be good with finance).

Thanks

You have a competitive profile for the MIF programs at HEC and Oxford. NYU and CBS MBA programs would be major stretch programs for you.l I don't think they are realistic given your GMAT verbal and the competition among applicants with similar profiles.

If you want to get into the really good MBA in finance programs, you should raise that verbal score. If you don't want to retake, you might be better off simply pursuing an MiF or MFE. Those programs will not weigh the verbal score as heavily.

Best,
Linda

Hi Linda,

Thanks a lot for your response.

In case I raise my score to 720-730+, which MBA schools can I hope to convert given 3 years of non-tech experience.

Regards,
Chirag

Chirag,

If you get to the 720-730 range, and most of the improvement comes in the verbal area of your GMAT score, then you would have a competitive chance at Chicago, NYU Stern, and Columbia.

Best,
Linda
